It is a truth universally acknowledged that a rainy day becomes much cheerier when one is in possession of a turquoise umbrella.

Here Come the Waterworks...

I was born a crybaby when it comes to the sweet, bittersweet, mushy, or gushy at its best. Movies and music particularly can run my emotions through the ringer. It’s a feminine thang, I guess. The following especially posses the ability to make it Niagara time for this girl:

1. The Bonny Banks O' Loch Lomond
I’m not even listening to this song at the moment and my eyes are welling up. No joke. It’s so…haunting…and…bittersweet…and…do you have a tissue?

2. The Fox and the Hound
“When you’re the best of friends, having so much fun together…” I sat down to watch this tearjerker not that long ago with my little brothers. Having not seen it in awhile, I cockily thought to myself, “Ah, this won’t affect me like it used to. I’ll just be here for moral support for the boys.”

Famous last words.

By the time we reached the part where the Widow was taking Todd the Fox to the game preserve and it began to rain, my own little rainstorm was taking place on my cheeks. Tear after big, fat rolling tear.

Oh, and the boys weren’t crying a lick. In fact, I don’t think it affected them at all. They just laughed at me.

3. Anne of Green Gables
So you might be thinking that this isn’t a particularly sad movie. But what about that part where Matthew dies in that green field, huh? And he tells Anne that she’ll always be his little girl? And-

Y’all, I am pitiful. Just pitiful. I’m tearing up right here and now in front of my computer screen.

4. Anne of Avonlea
Another movie that might not seem that sad. There’s always one scene that makes me cry though. That part where the joyful music begins when Anne returns home and she runs into Marilla’s arms. I know…no one is crying onscreen, but if the actors want to see some serious waterworks going on, they just need to turn around and look at me. Serious waterworks.

5. Beauty and the Beast
I positively sob at this movie when the Beast is dying and Belle is leaning over him crying. I can never make it through that scene without at least mentally yelling at poor Belle. Actually, I think I’ve done it out loud. “Tell him you love him! Tell him you love him!”

It’s a good thing I do, too, because she listens to me every time and he transforms into a handsome prince. Another cause for tears…happy ones, this time. ;)

6. Homeward Bound
I would recommend to never watch this one at night. At least if you have the “cry-hard-at-night-and-your-eyes-will-be-swollen-and-your-nose-will-look-like-Rudolph-the-Red-Nosed-Reindeer-in-the-morning” type of face. Like me. I don’t know what it is about happy music and long-lost pets racing into the arms of their ecstatic owners, but heartfelt reunions are my tissue’s downfall.

7. Tangled
This might quite possibly be my new favorite animated movie. Since it’s relatively new, I won’t spoil the ending for those of you who might not have seen it yet.  But let me say…*sniff* *sniff* *sob* Awww! *more sniffles and more sobs* You get the idea, I’m sure.

8. Toy Story 3
It makes me cry and want to scoop up all of my old toys and hug them. That is all.

9. Charlotte's Web
And I have saved the best "bring on the tears" movie for last. It doesn’t matter what form this movie is in (animated or live action), I cannot make it through without tears welling up in my eyes. I was only three or four when I first saw the animated version and Elisabeth and I would sit and cry through it together even then. If you’re wondering why, let me gently fill you in.

The spider dies. She dies. The noble spider that we’ve come to know and love dies and there’s no magic pixie dust to bring her back.

Forget the popcorn—someone pass the Kleenex. :)

You might not be as bad as me, but are there any movies/songs that make you cry?

I also have problems when it comes to things that can lead to tears. Music does it a lots to me, Celtic Woman "You raise me up" and II Divo "Amazing Grace". Search for those on You Tube but have a Kleenex handy.

Also Charlotte's Web has always made me cry. Sense and Sensibility makes me almost sob, when Edward comes back and declares how he feels about Eleanor, whew tears everywhere!

I talk about how I cry a lot during movies, but I don't really...I get a tightness in my throat and misty eyes. But I've never actually bawled...especially with all the guys around. Then one must cross one's arms and make fun of the sentimentality so one does not get laughed at.

Music, on the other hand.....

"Letters from War," "Find Your Wings," "Proud to Be an American" & "God Bless the USA" actually do make the tears roll. The song "Beauty and the Beast" always makes me cry, unfailingly.

Movies? Lord of the Rings. Toy Story 3. The Voyage of the Dawn Treader. Up. The Hiding Place. Beauty and the Beast (my favorite fairy tale). Gettysburg and Gods & Generals really did make me bawl...I haven't cried like that in awhile. A League of Grateful Sons.

I'll stop now.

Sis. Beth- "You Raise Me Up" by Celtic Woman...um, wow. It is just amazing. Though we have Sense and Sensibility, I haven't seen it in its entirety before. You need to come over and watch it with us and we can all have a cryfest. ;)

Bailey- I haven't heard or seen some of those, but I think you pretty much filled in the gap for me on the music I forgot about that makes me cry...God Bless the USA, especially. Tears *and* chills at that one! :)

I don't often cry during movies, but actually, each one of these movies are ones that either make me an emotional wreck or make me weep buckets.

Especially "Fox and the Hound" and "Tangled". I went to see "Tangled" twice in the theater and bawled in the last scene both times. It's SO, SO sweet.

Yes, it is...it had me crying like a baby and really reminded me of the older Disney classics. I can't wait until it comes out on DVD! :)

Thanks for your comment and for following my blog!

Erin, I've never even been to your blog before, but you completely read my mind on all the exact things that make me cry!

Another movie that really makes me cry is Remains of the Day ... my sister and I were actually physically sobbing the first time we watched it, it was so painfully sad. And a song that has ALWAYS made me cry, ever since I was a little tiny girl, is "It's Time For Saying Goodbye" from The Muppets Take Manhattan.

Excuse me while I go grab a (*sniffle*) tissue ...

Love in Christ,
Vicki

P.S. Your blog is beautiful! :-)

Hi Vicki! Thanks much for your visit and for your comment! :)

I've never seen "Remains of the Day", but if you're prone to cry at the other movies I mentioned, I have no doubt I'd be sobbing. I'll have to see it sometime (when I have several boxes of Kleenex available it sounds like). :) Have a blessed day!
