It is a truth universally acknowledged that a rainy day becomes much cheerier when one is in possession of a turquoise umbrella.

This, That, and the Other

This:
If you'll care to glance over at the right-hand sidebar (right over there, see? :)), you'll notice that I have 12,000 words on my Nanowrimo novel so far! Okay, so for those of you who are regular word machines, this might not seem like a big deal, but it definitely is for me. It's the most I've ever achieved on a novel. Ever. Sure, I'm two days behind...one from working at the voting polls all day last week and the other from being out of town yesterday. Yes, I probably could have reached my word count if I'd really pushed myself on those days, but I was tired, so just pity me. ;) I plan on catching up today and hopefully reaching 16, 667. Wooh! And it really hasn't interrupted my life at all as of yet. I've found that I work best at night and can achieve my daily 1,667 words in a relatively short amount of time. No, it's not something I'd burden y'all with the task of reading yet, but at least it's there!

That:
Speaking of working at the voting polls, it was a really great experience! Elisabeth and I had been poll officers at the elections back in August in our small town's precinct, but I don't think it was anywhere near as busy as it was last week. We were in charge of the computers, scanning the voter's license or manually creating a voter's card. It was something of a whirl, with hardly any breaks in voters from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm, but it was fun, too! It was also funny, because Elisabeth wasn't able to come until later because of classes, so I was sitting there working without her and voters I knew kept saying, "Hi, Erin!" or "How are you doing today, Erin?" I would respond, but I was thinking to myself, Wow, folks sure have gotten good at telling me and Elisabeth apart.

I had forgotten that I was wearing a name-tag. :P

And the Other:
Since tomorrow is Veteran's Day, I thought I would share two pics with y'all of my dad when he was in the US Navy from 1982-1986. He was a Search and Rescue Swimmer and is considered a veteran (I told him it's hard for me to wrap my mind around that with him being so young and all). :)

Happy Veteran's Day to all those who have served our country as well!

Have a great day! :)
