It is a truth universally acknowledged that a rainy day becomes much cheerier when one is in possession of a turquoise umbrella.

11/1/10

And so it Begins!

On the eve of Nanowrimo, I decided first off that:

A.) I needed to get up early.

And B.) I needed to go to bed early if I was going to be getting up early.

After making it through the complicated logistics, I grabbed Elisabeth's phone because mine was dead, because I forgot to charge it, because I'm not a very organized person...a great trait to have for a Nanowrimo-er, I'm sure. Anyway, I set the alarm on it for 4:30. Perfect.

At this point, it was about 9:30-10:00 at night and bedtime was just around the corner. One minor issue, however. Chemistry Girl (aka twin sister who I never see anymore because she's always immersed in chemistry homework) was still busy working on a chemistry quiz that was due at 11:45 that night. O-kayyyy. Fine, I could get through this. Not a problem. I'd just go to sleep while she still had the light on and quietly did her work...nothing I couldn't handle.

Enter minor issue #2. Elisabeth had not been able to access this quiz all day because the site had been down and she was now close to panicking. She began to video Skype with her friend and classmate who is also in chemistry while they tried to figure out what's wrong with the site. So now on top of the light, I have voices droning on...and on...and on...on...on.

With precious sleep now growing farther and farther away, I tried to participate in their conversation by telling this friend about my plans to participate in Nanowrimo. I was called (and I quote) crazy. A-hem. No, no, don't try to tell me you were teasing this late at night...I'm not buying it. ;) Such is the stuff that all the great geniuses must suffer anyway.

Sufficiently miffed, I decided to play some nice, calming music on the netbook to help me get sleepy. Some old George Strait songs coming right up! I snuggled my head back into the pillow and just let the music play on. *yawn* Elisabeth then turned to me. "Um, that's nice and everything, but I can't concentrate. Please turn it off."

Are. you. kidding. me? Who turns off George smack dab in the middle of a song?? Apparently me, as I
grumpily understandingly turned the music off. By now, however, the clock was reading 11:30. 11:30, people! Believe me, I'm not the type of person you want to cross late at night when I can't get my rest and I was just about ready to start throwing pillows. Elisabeth finally did finish her quiz, however, although it was just about midnight when she did so.

I changed the alarm to go off at 5:00 instead. Well, it went off alright and I woke up. Only to hit the Dismiss button and fall back asleep. :P So where has this post been leading up to, you might ask? I have not a written a single word on my novel. Not one single word. But the day isn't over yet and I WILL get my 1, 667 words in before the day is finished. And go to bed and get up at 5:00 tomorrow morning.

Provided I'm not kept up so late tonight. We'll see... ;)

Don't feel too alone--I set my alarm for around 6:15 this morning, but I didn't realize I had the alarm on PM instead of AM, so I got up mucchhh later than planned. :)

Kara-I thought it was cute, too! I actually found it on the internet though...if you click on it, it should show the blogger address where it came from. :)

Thanks, Bethany!! :)

Sarah-I'm doing National Novel Writing Month where you write a 50,000 word novel in 30 days. :) Can you see why our friend thought I was crazy? lol

LOL Caroline-Sounds like something I would do! ;) And after falling back asleep, I slept a lot later, too. *sheepish grin*

I know how it is to go without sleep... like now. :o
I won't go into detail, since I'm far to tired, etc.
However, I do wish you luck with your Novel!!

lol Thank you, Anna!! I know, midnight is just about my complete limit...otherwise, I can be kind of crabby in the morning. ;)

I almost convinced myself to sleep in for fifteen more minutes...but the thought of being late for my kindergartners (again) was too much for my dignity to bear.

LOL I loved this post. You're a riot. :o)
