It is a truth universally acknowledged that a rainy day becomes much cheerier when one is in possession of a turquoise umbrella.

Georgia John and the Mysterious Intruder

Others may have their Indiana Jones...around here, we have our own (albeit unlikely) heros:

Georgia John

Yes sir, this young man is quick-witted, able to draw his pistol faster than you can yell howdy, and has a hero sized appetite to boot. Bad guys, BEWARE!! And of course, no hero can go without a trusty sidekick:

Ellie Oakley

This li'l lady is smart, quick on her feet, and also one of the best blueberry muffin bakers in the county! :) And while she would have you to believe that the bruise on her forehead is a battle scar, it's actually where she accidentally conked herself on the noggin (but just say a little bird told you alrighty?) :p

Together, side by side, this dynamic duo works to make the wilds of the family backyard into a safe place for law abidin' citizens everywhere!

A typical day for these justice seekers runs like this here:

With her sharp eyes, Ellie Oakley suddenly spots something (or someone) creeping closer and closer towards them. She gasps. It's an intruder poised and preparing to shoot Georgia John and Ellie Oakley with the camera that seems always to be glued to her hands. Ellie alerts G. J. to the danger. He reacts instantly and levels the intruder with a gaze that could melt ice in January:

*clears throat* I said, "...a gaze that could melt ice in January!"

Ah, that's better! ")

The intruder pauses for a short moment, but in that moment, Georgia John signals to Ellie. She nods and immediately strikes a pose that practically begs the intruder to take her picture:

Aha! The intruder is distracted and turns with her point and shoot towards Ellie. Quick as a wink, Georgia John whips out his genuine plastic pistol.

The intruder does not notice at first and walks toward G. J., the words, "SAY CHEESE!!" forming on her lips. She halts, realizing that G. J. means business:

"Now, listen here...I don't wanna get rough with ya, but if you'll kindly take your camera like contraption somewheres else, I'd be mighty obliged...please?" lol

He strikes a tough guy pose for emphasis, and the intruder sighs and retreats, acknowledging that she probably has enough pictures for a blog post (mwahaaahaaa)!

And so, with content smiles, Georgia John and Ellie Oakley await their next adventure...satisfied that they are doing their part to keep nosy photographers out of the area and on the run! :)

"Just another day in the life of Georgia John and his sidekick, Ellie Oakley. Thank ya for your kind attention."

Southern Hospitali-Tea

Hello!!
Pop is finally home from the hospital (after a 13 day stay) and is recuperating nicely...ah, home sweet home! :OD You can read a more detailed update here at my grandmother's blog. I know I've said it several times, but your prayers really mean a lot!! Thank y'all! :)

About a year and a half ago, Mam (our grandmother) "met" Mrs. Marion (who lives in Wales) through Mrs. Marion's blog. They began corresponding via email and soon became very close friends. Well, several weeks ago, their dreams to meet each other came true as Mrs. Marion and her husband, Mr. John, flew all the way from WALES! to visit. They stayed about 12 days, but their visit didn't seem long enough...we loved them so much, we didn't want them to leave! They were so sweet and I loved listening to their English accents and hearing all about Wales. We miss you, Mrs. Marion and Mr. John, and are ready for y'all to come again! :OD
Anyway, whilst they were here, Mom and Sis. Beth hosted a "Southern Hospitali-Tea" for Mrs. Marion in Mam's backyard. It was great! But rather than go into a lengthy description about it, I will instead share a slideshow of pictures from the party...after all, one picture is worth a thousand words, right? :)

Update on Pop/Last Friday Night

Hi everyone!
Well, the doctors successfully removed the blood clots in Pop's leg and (while still feeling sick from the surgery) he's on his way to recovery! Thank you so much for your prayers!! I know he really appreciated them and so did we...we found out later that there was a chance that he might have lost his left leg, so thank you, thank you, THANK YOU for your prayers!! :OD

It's been a li'l crazy around here for the past week, but I've been meaning to share pics from last Friday evening when our friend, Hannah, Elisabeth, and I planned and co-hosted along with Sis. Kynnette an "Out of School" party at Sis. Kynnette's house. I had a GREAT time and I'm sure that everyone else did too! Thanks a bunch, Sis. Kynnette and Bro. Earl!! Also, thanks Sis. Kynnette for taking most of the pictures...I'd planned on taking more but was having so much fun, I kinda forgot! lol So without further ado, here are some pics from the party:

The patriotic decorations...

Mmmm...the delicious cake that Hannah and Elisabeth made!

7 Things I've Learned From Being a Big Sister...

1. ....I've learned that the one time you go to bed REALLY REALLY late and you're REALLY REALLY exhausted, your younger siblings will promptly surmrise that this is the morning that you need to get up at 6:30 a.m. :)

2. ...I've learned that in the hot summer weather, don't continue to stay outside...rather, head for cover...especially if your youngest sister is holding a bowl full of icy water and eyeing you with a look that says, "Y'know, it's so hot today, I think that you need to cool off." :p

3. ...You will be asked numerous kinda odd questions throughout your day:

17 year old Elisabeth (hey, I am her senior...by a wonderful nine minutes!): "So Erin, do you want to clean the study or the kitchen first?" Um, how did my wants get mixed up into this? Sure, I want to clean the whole study from top to bottom...just for fun! :OD

11 year old Wesley: "Erin, would you research some information for me on the highly intriguing subject of hydro-electric dams?" Uhh, okayyy...what was the question again? :{

8 year old Ellie: "Girls, can you play Cinderella with me? You both can play the wicked stepsisters." Oh, Ellie, how gracious and generous of you! ")

4 year old John: "Ewin, did Mama and Daddy get you and Elisabeth at the Indian store?" John, I know we're dark-complected, but Mama and Daddy did NOT get us at the Indian store, or anywhere else for that matter...*sigh* ;)

2 year old Alexander: "Da-da! Brrrmmm! Ice...peasssse?" And if you understood that request, congratulations! LOL

4. ...If you have just cleaned the afor-mentioned study...even vacumned the large rug, three of your siblings will promptly come charging through the back door and begin...wiping their dirty shoes all over the floor! :( Let's see, three siblings equals six dirty feet...oh no! LOL

5. ...Wearing only a diaper, your youngest brother will put on large, fire-engine red boots, a floppy hat, and two mismatched gloves and think that he is properly clothed for an outing with you in the backyard!

6. ...You will have highly interesting conversations at the breakfast table:
John (gazing off into space): "Ewin, when are you going to get married?"
Erin (gazing at John with a baffled look): "Ummm, someday, I hope."
John: "Oh, you going to have kids...lots and lots of them?"
Erin: "I hope so."
John: "When I get married, I'm going to have yots of kids, too!"
Erin: "Really? How many do you want?"
John: "Oh, fifteen." Whoa. ;)

7. ...Mildred B. Vermont said the following quote referring to motherhood...but I think it could apply to sisterhood as well:

Being a full-time sister is one of the highest salaried jobs... since the payment is pure love.

Happy Birthday to Meee! And Elisabeth! :OD

"Happy Birthday to meeeee (and Elisabeth)! Happy Birthday to meeeee (and Elisabeth)! Happy Birthhhhdaayyy to meeeee (and Elisabeth)! Happy Birthday tooooo meeeee (and Elisabeth)!!!"
LOL Yes, today my twin sis, Elisabeth, and I have officially turned 17! Yay! For lack of anything poetic to say, I will simply remark that Elisabeth and I have had a very blessed 17 years! Love ya, Lis, and HAPPY BIRTHDAY!! :)

Okay, now, on with the pictures! :P

"Greetings, earthlings, we come in peace!" LOL Elisabeth and I were premature (arriving about a month early) and we both only weighed about 4 lb. apiece...and it looks to me like our heads were a li'l out of proportion with our tiny bodies! Never fear, though, they're not like that now! :OD

5 yrs. old!

Hmmm...I can't find any very recent pics of us, but maybe I'll be able to find/take one by this afternoon...in the meantime, you'll all just have to be satisfied with these photos from yesteryears! :OD
